studio piece: house with wings #2
This is another piece from our conversations around the place we call home. We think it captures the qualities of home that we value: the container that holds our essential wildness. Where dreams take flight...
The piece you see here stands on its own. The bird & brush perspective on it is an original painting by Kai - eight layers of paint & ink. (Just so you know, the second layer also has a secret wish handwritten in graphite. As additional paint layers are added, the graphite blurs & blends until it becomes part of the entire piece...) It's on a slice of elm from a tree in North Dakota that was cut down in an attempt to stop Dutch Elm disease. The wings are carved from redwood, reclaimed from a pickle brine barrel out of Oregon.
[Please note: this is another original sculpture of the house with wings, taken from the sketches in Kai's studio notebook. While we may offer a version of this in the future, this is currently the only one like this available.]
