take a look at what we're up to

family keepsake

On a recent visit, my dad shared with us a plan he'd been working on. We liked it so much, we decided to pass it along to you...

He wants to get to know his granddaughters better and he wants them to know him, so he plans to invite them both out for lunch. Worried they may run out of things to talk about, he's already handwritten pages and pages of family history. Each story began with the phrase, “Did you know…”

When Brian and I heard this, our eyes welled up and we said, WE want to have that lunch with you...

Dad got a bit shy and changed the subject. For his birthday a few months later, we got him a notebook so he had a special place for more of those stories. We chose a notebook that fit him: simple and practical, with a plain cover, large enough for his hands that are a bit arthritic from all those years working outside in winter without gloves. A place for his stories to live.

He and my mom were so moved, that for Mother’s Day, one of her gifts is a notebook that fits her. It's a place for her to record family recipes, some of her drawings, and all the stories she remembers from growing up on her grandfather's farm…

As we searched for the right notebook for her, we realized our best choice was the one we use ourselves – except she'd want a story on the front of it…

Which is how we came up for this for you.

For a limited time (as Brian would say HA. Extremely limited, since we only have  a few and he stops when we run out...) he'll do an original pen and ink drawing of one of three stories on the cover of the notebook you choose. (Just so you know, we also offer the notebooks without a drawing, in case your person, like my dad,  would prefer that.)

The notebooks are not as eco-friendly as we'd like, but we fell in love with the way they feel as you write. Silky smooth with just the right tooth as your pen glides over the surface. And they open flat because they have a threaded binding. They're made by the Japanese company, Midori, which takes great pride in the beauty and functionality of their notebooks. with love, Fia

P.S. Along with the notebooks, we also have a couple of new greeting cards Brian made a few days ago for all of the upcoming celebrations of Mother's Day/Father's Day/Parent's Day. They're the stories Perfect World and Gratitude for all the people who've made a difference in your life.
