studio piece: house with wings #3
This is another piece from our conversations around the place we call home. We think it captures the qualities of home that we value: the container that holds our essential wildness. Where dreams take flight...
The piece you see here has a drill hole on the backside for wall hanging. The bird & brush perspective on it is an original painting by Kai - eight layers of paint & ink, over a hand-sanded gesso ground. (Just so you know, the second layer also has a secret wish handwritten in graphite. As additional paint layers are added, the graphite blurs & blends until it becomes part of the entire piece...)
This house is made of Shagbark Hickory, from a barn razed somewhere in the Carolinas. The wings are hand made from corral board - old fenceposts reclaimed from a Wyoming farm - with metal leaf.
