We are still exploring the Cape, but in the relatively short time we've been here, we have found some favorite places we repeatedly visit... Here is a bit about where we are & a few of our favorite finds...
As you'll see on a map of the Cape, Sandwich is not too far over the bridge. We have 4 lanes of highway, which means traffic moves steadily. Around Harwich/Dennisport, the mid-cape highway goes into 2 lanes, which means traffic farther East can get a bit clogged in the busy seasons (or when there is construction). We choose to travel 6A whenever we're not in a rush. It runs parallel to the mid-cape & is by far the prettier drive. It will take you past all sorts of little galleries & shops & restaurants.
favorite places along 6A...
the cook shop (Brewster) - this place reminds me of some of my most favorite shops in NYC - ones crammed to the gills with every perfectly curated dish, tool, or ingredient that is otherwise quite difficult to find...
cape abilities farm (Dennis) - a year round organic & local food shop & farm, & as if that is not fabulous enough, it is also "
a nonprofit that provides jobs, homes, transportation, social & therapeutic services for people with disabilities across Cape Cod"
parnassus book service (Yarmouthport) - floor to ceiling used books... some of which you'll need a step stool to reach... it is across the street from...
titcomb's bookshop (Sandwich) - there are a lot of fantastic independent bookshops here on Cape, but this one is our favorite (so far...)
sandy neck beach (Sandwich) - rocky/sandy beach, day pass info is on the link above there
*NOTE FOR MANY BEACHES ON CAPE - between Memorial Day & Labor Day passes are required (many day passes will give you access to one or more beaches) - outside of this time, often parking is free - check online at the desired beach for details...
if you're here for an open studio & wondering what to do in Sandwich...
ON OCTOBER 5TH, same day as our open studio, there is the SandwichFest from 10-4pm
titcomb's bookshop & sandy neck beach of course, also...
heritage museums & gardens - 100 acres of all sorts of things to see, walking trails, exhibits, gardens, etc.
snowy owl - the coffee shop & roastery
sandwich glass museum
other favorites...
wellfleet is possibly our favorite town on Cape - some wonderful little shops plus the national seashoreis nearby & a few of our favorite haunts are there:
art galleries: jeff soderbergh || left bank gallery || frying pan gallery
falmouth has a vibrant main street with all sorts of shops & restaurants, nearby a lovely park, library, & playground - it puts you near to the ferries which will take you to Nantucket and/or Martha's Vineyard
osterville has our most favorite farmer's market & pizza place (Crisp), Orleans is lovely as well.
As you can see this is not an exhaustive list... it's just what we've come up with so far in the time we've had to explore... we invite you to visit the Cape & find your own favorites...
