i can promise you miracles, i said, when you're ready to see them. so we sat on the porch & watched the fireflies swirl like living stars & far off we could hear people laughing. after a while, he stood up & said he was going to bed. maybe tomorrow it'll work. i nodded & sat there for a long time after he left, wrapping myself up again in the miracles of the world.
