original pencil + paint: the fabric of things
When I was young, before I even had words for it, I could see the lines that connected people to the world. To the trees & rocks & clouds that moved across the sky. How each one of us was connected to every living thing with glowing white lines that hummed with electric messages going back & forth & how the lines held us & kept us from floating off into space. Since that was obvious to me, I thought everyone could see them, too. It did not take me long at all to learn that was not true, so I stopped mentioning them to people I met as often as before. But still, it amazes me almost every single day when I see again how the world is woven together, holding us all, even the ones who see only pieces & parts.
