weekly pen & ink: 'translation'

Someone told me once that the word for 'ten' in ancient Sumerian is the same as the word for 'fingers'. The word for 'six' though is 'Ashmiel' who as best we can tell was a well-known carpenter who accidentally cut off four fingers when his axe slipped. (I do not know if this is true, but it kind of makes sense.)
